Coast Guard launches two indigenous fast patrol vessels for offshore security

The Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Monday launched two indigenous fast patrol vessels built for the Indian Coast Guard to protect offshore assets, island territories, and conduct surveillance operations.
The vessels, Adamya and Akshar, were ceremonially launched by Priya Paramesh, wife of Indian Coast Guard Director General (DG) Paramesh Sivamani. These ships have been designed and constructed in-house by GSL to meet the specific requirements of the Indian Coast Guard.
Each vessel measures 52 meters in length, with a breadth of 8 meters, a maximum speed of 27 knots, and a displacement of 320 tons, powered by a CPP-based propulsion system. The keel for both vessels was laid by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane on August 25, 2023, and this simultaneous launch marks the first use of GSL’s advanced Ship Lift System.
Primarily intended for the protection and surveillance of offshore assets and island territories, these advanced patrol vessels will play a vital role in enhancing the ICG’s operational capabilities.
The project also strengthens India’s local manufacturing ecosystem, generating significant employment opportunities within the industry and for MSMEs engaged in production.
During the ceremony, the Chief Guest praised GSL and associated industries for meeting the Coast Guard’s shipbuilding needs through indigenous efforts. Congratulating GSL employees for reaching this milestone, he urged all present to continue advancing the nation’s journey toward self-reliance in defence production.
Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) is constructing eight Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard under a contract valued at Rs 473 crore. Designed with over 60 per cent indigenous content, these vessels embody the commitment to self-reliance, advancing the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
