    Description

SIX AUTHENTIC PRE-COLUMBIAN CERAMIC SPINDLE WHORLS FROM CENTRAL MEXICO
THESE SIX PRE COLUMBIAN SPINDLE WHORLS WERE PART OF A GROUP RECENTLY ACQUIRED FROM A COLLECTION IN SOUTHERN WISCONSIN.  THEY WERE ORIGINALLY COLLECTED BY THE LATE JOHN MONTAVAN OF DEKALB, ILLINOIS.  THESE PERFORATED OBJECTS WERE USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF SPUN FIBER AND THEY ARE PREVALENT ON ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES DATING TO THE POST CLASSIC PERIOD IN CENTRAL AMERICA, OR BETWEEN 900 AD AND 1519 AD WHEN THE SPANISH ARRIVED.  THESE SIX EXAMPLES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND MEASURE FROM 1" TO 1 1/8" IN DIAMETER.  A FEW ARE DECORATED AND ALL HAVE NICE PATINA.  THEY ARE GUARANTEED TO BE GENUINE.
