If you need heavy duty stitching in a small package, consider this Singer 99 as the answer. It is about the same size as a Singer 221 Featherweight, but it is made of cast iron so it is much heavier. And in this instance heavier is a good thing. That extra weight makes it tough, strong and sturdy, and the mall metal gearing means it will sew through 1/4 inch leather without missing a stitch. Yes, we have other industrial strength machines on this week, including a Singer 15 and a Necchi BU that both sew heavy weight leather, but neither of those are as small as this one, and only this 99 comes with its very own base.
I rewired this machine so all of the cords are good, it comes with a copy of the original manual, some Singer accessories, and a nice working foot pedal. I also lubed up every moving part including the motor bushings, the bobbin winder and the hook and race. It is a very smooth running machine.
Hey, check the swatches. It sews sweet through regular material, and better still through leather. The tape measure doesn't lie, that is genuine 1/4" suede leather. Ya gotta like that!
