Description
Marantz 4270 Quadraphonic Receiver Wood Case. This is the
Marantz 4270
Quadraphonic 4 channel receiver or Quadradial as it was also called. It of course would also play in 2 channel stereo. It was one of Marantz’s top of the line quad receivers back in the day . It was released in 1974 and sold at around 0.00. It has 8 sets of speaker connections and outputs 70 watts x channel in stereo and 25 watts per channel in quad mode. It weighs in at over 40 pounds. And these wattage figure's are highly conservative especially compared to today's digital amplifiers that sound weak and thin due to small microprocessor circuity vs. large scale capacitors and much higher quality power supplies that were employed back in the day's before the larger scale production of today's electronics.
The Marantz 4270 also uses the WC-22 wood case. The wood case makes quite a difference in the final sale price of these units these days. A fully restored, fine condition 4270 with wood case
is worth much more than the counterparts without the wood case.
I just had a master technician go through and replace all the caps and set the power supply to 35v.
All amp boards were recapped using higher value Nichicon & Sprague caps with upgraded Wima Film caps on all the inputs. LED's replaced for a nice bright front display to the warm white like original. All T03 output transistors were given new heat sink paste. New Vellum paper on display was replaced due to old paper was yellowed and damaged, Set idle current in all 4 amps to 1mv per sm & pc offest as close to 0mv as possible (less than 5m/chan) Cleaned and lubed all pots and switches. Lube all tuner strings, pully's & gyro wheel.
You'll have to scour the globe to find one that looks and sounds as good as this one !
