Description
Up for consideration and from my collection, my fifth Marantz 2270, or number 5. Number 4 was an engraved faceplate sold long ago, and now my last one must go. Having done many rebuilds to where I've lost count, I have done them for personal enjoyment as the amount of time that goes into them does not pay off financially. I have plenty of other units that remain (and a day job), don't worry. If you are looking to score a flagship Marantz 2270 without glitches, later production of 6/10/1974 taking advantage of design updates, perfect tuner, all corners square, original Motorola output transistors, all knobs straight, upgraded power cord, upgraded audio quality Nichicon MUSE (even the large power caps) and Elna SILMIC II capacitors, plus LED dial and meter light converted, then this is the one.
Some of the work performed:
Complete disassembly and clean every surface of grime, dust, and oxidation
Completely treat all contact, pots, RCA connectors, and switches with DeOxit D5
Remove all electrolytic capacitors and replace with audio grade lines from Nichicon MUSE (Gold Tune, Fine Gold) and Elna SILMIC II (silk); radio boards remain intact as they are working perfectly.
Added film bypasses (Sprague Orange Drop, Mallory Series 150, Bennic) on main power caps to improve spatial audio response and sharpened treble response while quieting power supply
Replaced original 18 AWG power cord, install full-braided copper 14 AWG cord
Replace all dial fuse-type bulbs with LED conversion bulbs
Replaced other burnt indicator bulbs
Fully detail dial glass and pointer
Fully detail each knob individually
Treat all front 1/4" input jacks
Detail dial rotary flywheel
Set factory spec per service manual: power supply voltage, bias, DC offset
Test and re-test and enjoy for at least a couple years, no glitches
Having gained confidence in my work over the years and being able to hear problems, this unit will arrive fully working, problem free, and insured. Damage by user or improper functioning inputs like noisy turntables will not justify a return. I state this from experience, so if you buy, you keep, even if you think the sound is not what you are looking for. I have tested all inputs and they work as designed, not for a week or two, but at least a couple years. There are no glitches to mention. Please notice one of the tabs of the speaker connector push-downs took flight. These will be replaced with banana binding posts before the unit ships however.
NO RETURNS ACCEPTED.
