    Description

Okay, I would seriously doubt that this is actually completely unused, after all who would open up a receiver like this and not at least give it a listen! But I did get your attention which is good because short of a sealed box, you simply will not find one of these in this kind of condition. I apologize for the tiny hair above the switches in the close up picture because that and a speck of dust mar what would otherwise be a showroom presentation! I even included a picture looking down on the top vents simply to show that there’s not even a speck of dust settled inside. In addition to the original box and inserts this also comes with the original plastic wrap for the receiver and the unopened FM antenna. If you’re not completely familiar with this model or the NAD tradition, read on. If you know this receiver the way I do then go for it!
NAD has always been known for their fine sounding, no-nonsense designs, and when I picked up this receiver to sub for my main pre and power amp while they were in the shop I expected it to sound good, but not this good. I now understand why the reviewers are raving. This receiver is simply amazing! The sound really was extremely close to the separates I was using at the time (A PS Audio 4.6 pre and Bryston 3B Amp). Although conservatively rated at 50 wpc, the “Power Envelope” high current topology allows this to put out closer to 200 wpc for short durations into 8 ohms, and this figure goes up substantially into 4 ohms and this is even rated into 2 ohm loads! Not many receivers are particularly happy with even 4 ohm loads, but the NAD is totally at ease. The company does have a reputation for very conservative specs and I must say that this receiver seems to have little trouble keeping up with my Bryston amp!
But power isn't everything, it's got to sound good too, and it does! The sound is sweet and detailed with a very solid, punchy bottom and great staging. There is a very musical nature to it that simply draws the listener into the musical performance as few pieces can do! The center detent type tone controls are some of the very few that are truly useful for making subtle adjustments to less than perfect source material. The phono section which has always been a highlight of NAD designs is also first rate offering very low noise with an extremely accurate curve and very smooth, warm sounding presentation. There are inputs for phono, tape, CD, and aux. Also included is the NAD soft clipping feature which alters the distortion structure to produce a more gentle tube like even ordeote of the digital tuner section which offers 5 presets, but more importantly sounds fantastic! I have rarely encountered a more sensitive front end which was able to receive the normally noisy NPR station in my area with tremendous clarity and lack of noise! Additional features include full switching for two sets of speakers, and pushbuttons for NAD’s Bass Eq (which proves remarkably effective at extending the useful bottom end of smaller systems without muddying the upper bass), Infrasonic Filter (great with records), Stereo/Mono, FM Noise Reduction, Low Level (audio muting), and Loudness.
In the end, if you’re looking for a really special receiver with performance and power that is about as good as it gets, then this NAD should be high on the short list. Add in the spectacular condition and this really comes up a winner! Buyer pays actual shipping cost. Don’t miss  out!
