Description
Antique John Frederick Daniell Dew Point Hygrometer C 1870-1890. Daniell was anEnglish Chemist (1790-1845) who invented this style of Hygrometer which was used
to facilitate observation of the dew. The bulbs are approximately 1.75 inches in diameter
the glass parts are 7.75 inches wide by 8.25 inches high overall. The internal thermometer
has its white glass scale enclosed, and is graduated from -20 to +50 degrees Celsius. The
external thermometer, marked Celsius, with an open white glass scale marked -10 to 50+
degrees. It is attached to a turned ebonized wood stand that is approximately 10.25 inches
high. The one bulb has the remains of the original muslin cloth and the other, longer tube bulb
has a gilt band around it. This is a very rare hygrometer and most survivors of this kind of
hygrometer are in museums. A brief history of John Frederick Daniell is included with the
hygrometer. A real treat for the Hygrometer collector or the collector of antique weather
instruments. When this is shipped, the base will be unscrewed and placed in box for
safer packing.
