    Description

Many of you know me and have dealt or corresponded with me for years. You know that I am a "straight shooter". I will always tell you exactly what I know about the artifacts. In this case, it isn't much. This lot of 11 artifacts came from a country online auction down in Broome County, New York. These were the only artifacts in the auction, and they were jammed into a small wooden box measuring 4 5/8 x 2 5/8". Seriously, who would do that? Dingbat!!!  I didn't get to inspect them until they arrived in the mail. Many years ago my dad found a lovely fluted point and several other wonderful points in an oversize coffee cup at a barn sale in Sherwood, NY. I doubt lightning could strike twice.
I do know that these points have no relationship to New York State. They look midwestern or southwestern to me. How did they get to Broome County? No idea. The grouping is intriguing. The workmanship is excellent. There appear to be 6 projectiles, 1 uniface flake tool, 1 elliptic shaped knife of a lovely translucent tool stone, an interesting rectangular knife with cortex, and 2 random flakes. The Clovis point measures 4" x 1 5/8". The flutes are short. One tang is slightly shorter than the other so it is a bit "lopsided". A tiny bit of the tip is missing and there is a minute flake off one shoulder. The base is nicely ground up to approximately the shoulder. The rectangular knife is 4 1/8" x 1 3/8". A very large flake was driven off the side with the most remaining cortex. It's a great tool. The rest of the assemblage is pretty much self explanatory.
You now know as much about these artifacts as I do. Because I do not know their provenance I am NOT selling these as ancient. My reputation is a lot more important to me than a few dollars. If they are authentic...how awesome. If not, they would make a great type collection to take to schools, scout troops, etc. to use in your educational presentations.
I wish I could tell you more. Ancient or from W. T. Grants these are strikingly well made and they will NEVER be jammed back into that small wooden box. They will be carefully wrapped because someone with great skill made them...then or now.
